Fiction of Lewis

"But for the moment let us assume that Corineus is right. Let us pretend , for the purposes of argument, that all who now call themselves Christians have abandoned the historic doctrines" (Myth Became Fact). When I looked back at the essay from Lewis, it was easy to make a quick connection with this quote and the Chronicles of Narnia. It pertains to some of the characters losing faith in what hey had previously believed in. We see it in a number of characters in the series, that though they experienced this land first hand, they still managed to lose their belief in the land. They abandoned what they knew to be true. It also reminds me of the passage of Scripture in Matthew 7, where people who never truly knew God were mentioned.“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness."(Matthew 7:21-23). God says there are many people who think they know God, but do not. Lewis refers to this in this quote by noting that they "call themselves Christians". Just because claim to know God or do things in his name, does not mean we KNOW him. This also offers a possible interpretation of why Lewis has some of his characters lose faith in Narnia. They probably never truly believed from the beginning.
