Whenever

Are we ready to completely follow God right now, today, or are we always putting it off for tomorrow, because we want to keep some things our way for a little while longer? We tell ourselves that this phase will only last a little longer before we will completely serve and follow God for the rest of our lives. In Luke 9:59-60, a man comes up to Jesus and tells Jesus that he wants to follow Him. BUT, he told Jesus that he wanted to go and bury his father FIRST. To start, I think we can all agree this seems like a perfectly reasonable excuse, and that it is probably better than anything we have ever come up with. Secondly, it should be noted that the man's father was most likely not dead yet, and that the man was more specifically asking to live with his family until they pass away, and then follow Jesus. Whether his father was dead or not, the point is still the same. Jesus is calling and asking us to follow him fully and completely right now. There is nothing more important in our life than us doing so promptly, even if that means we have to put our faith above our family. We simply, do not know how many more chances we will get to stop promising God to fully follow him for tomorrow. Sadly, for this man in Luke 9, we are lead to believe that he did not end up following Jesus. His interests in the world, were more important to him than his interests in following Jesus fully.
