The Moment of Awakening
Connections with Lewis: Narnia
November 16, 2016
Shasta shares the sorrows of his journey with the mysterious being walking next to him in the dark. “Don’t you think it was bad luck to meet so many lions?” Shasta asks. “There was only one lion,” the voice responds. The voice then tells Shasta that it was he who was next to him in all his struggles. Suddenly it brightens outside and Shasta makes out the figure of his mysterious companion. It’s The Lion! A warm calm comes over him. All begins to make sense. Not in the sense that all things had been logically explained to him but in the sense that all was okay. The Lion was more “terrible and beautiful” than anything he’d seen before. Moments of awakening always take us by storm, birthing something new inside the way we consciously see the world. The moment Shasta understands the Lion alters the way he begins to see everything around him. This one thing changes everything. And so it is always the case with awakenings. It always seems to be one moment; one particular thing that open us up to everything.
