Ben Pearce: Narnia 1 Blog 9

EBTS in the Trinity
Aslan is the creator of Narnia. In The Magician’s Nephew, Aslan came out of darkness to sing Narnia into creation. This is an accurate depiction of Jesus Christ, who being God is the creator of the Universe. Aslan makes several allusions that he is existent in other universes as other mythical savior figures, which is clearly also a reference to him being Jesus Christ. My question has to do with the rest of the Holy Trinity. We know that the Emperor Beyond the Sea has to do with God the Father. Why is he so distant though? If God is everywhere than he should not be as distant. He should not just take the form of an Emperor hidden in a castle, but he should envelop the entirety of the world of Narnia and all the world which he created. Is he a physical being like Aslan is, or is he spirit like God the Father is? He sent Aslan as his son to be creator and savior for Edmund, yet he seems to have no direct part to play besides that of a distant God. He is said to be the creator of the Deep Magic, but when it comes to the fulfillment of the Deep Magic in Aslan’s sacrifice, he is not around. These accusations could be answered through Aslan himself. Aslan works in perfect unity with the Emperor. If he is anything like the Christian God, than Aslan is the image and vicar of the Emperor, like Christ is the vicar of the Father. From the books, it is unknown how and why Aslan is the child of the Emperor without being created, just like it is unknown how Christ is the Son of God without being created. Overall, little is known about the Emperor Beyond the Sea, but much can be imagined when drawing comparisons to God the Father. It is unclear where the similarities end though.
