Conception of the Unknown

In Out of The Silent Planet, when Ransom is first on Malacandra, Lewis is describing Ransom's thought of the world. Talking about how Ransom found it very beautiful but that he had a preconceived idea about it. As believers, we can frequently feel like we know how God works or what He wants. It is common of people to try to put God in a box, yet He doesn't belong there. He is truly unknown, truly dangerous, yet truly beautiful and truly loving. The fear of the Lord that is talked about in Christian Scriptures is never telling people to be afraid in the sense to hide or not talk to God. Rather be aware of His great power and the fact that He is the Creator. Ransom had a idea of the unknown, a view of something he never knew. He was intrigued by it and had a conception of it, one could say he feared it. He feared the unknown as many people today fear the God they can't see for the very fact they can't see Him or hear Him all the time. The fear of the unknown is part of what makes it even more beautiful when you lay eyes upon it. The unexpected nature of that reveal can't be prepared for or imagined, especially in the case of God. We know not when we will see Him, or what He could possibly look like. We know only that we will be in awe.
