The Great Divorce-Outside Reading

The Great Divorce
Lewis wrote this novella about Heaven and Hell. The main character gets the choice of whether he will take the bus to heaven or remain in this grey town that is referred to as hell. When given the choice most of the people on the bus chose to go back to the grey town. This surprised me. I think that most people would be grateful for the chance to leave hell if given the opportunity. If you’ve made bad decisions your whole life I would like to think that you would like to get the chance to spend your afterlife with the people in your life that did some good with theirs. It seems so easy to make the decision to be in heaven. However, after thinking about it, it doesn’t seem so easy. The easier decision was to go back to living the life you are accustomed to. Getting to heaven means they had to repent. Repenting is hard. Admitting you’re wrong and admitting you want change your life is actually a hard idea. This story makes me wonder if Lewis knew how mind boggling the idea of choosing between heaven and hell when he wrote this. This novella is about hard decisions and to that I can relate.
