Outside Reading--God is Able

Ashley Frost
Outside Reading
"God is Able" by Priscilla Shirer

"The apostle Paul told them that Jews and Gentiles, age-old enemies in every conceivable aspect of the term, were no longer on opposite cultural planets.  By virtue of the gospel--the peace and reconciliation to God they'd received through the Messiah's sacrifice--they had become a third race of people known as the 'body of Christ.' And their unity as believers was designed to show the world that if God could do this, He most certainly could do anything.  Through the life and death of the Messiah, a 'mystery' race had been conceived..." (31).

As I read these lines, all I can think about is this most recent Presidential election.  More than ever before (at least in my lifetime) the USA seems divided straight down party lines, and there is hatred on both sides.  The idea that the body of Christ can be unified, despite party lines, almost seems like a myth to me.  Fantasy.  It is crazy to me that Jesus can be the great Unifier.  He is Love.  How do we show our brothers and sisters Love like His in this season?  And what a great testament to Him it would be if, in this season of opinions and hate and hurt, we can love like He loves, and be unified as one Body?  It would be a mystery to the world.
