myth of poverty-outside reading

Poor black neighborhood,
Too much policing; All white
Neighborhoods are safe.
I was looking for a poem that related to myths and this one was on the list. I chose it because it is definitely a myth just not the kind of myth that I was looking. However, I think it still fits into the category. We learned that myths tell us something about the world and I think this small poem surely does. Kids are told the poor neighborhoods have crime and a lot of police while white neighborhoods are perfect. That is not true at all. Some black neighborhoods are ok and some white neighborhoods are not as safe as others. This relates to theme of judgment. Myths can sometimes lead to judgment. We make judgments based on what we know. Myths are told to us as kids and we carry them with us for the rest of our lives and they lead to our judgment. Do you think that myths can sometimes have an influence on our judgments of the world?
