Language- Outside Reading
I recently read "Language" by Hooks and it talks about the teaching of new and old worlds through language. We have talked a lot about how language can effect myth depending on what diction is used. C.S. Lewis was very intelligent in how he picked words to use for his writings. I am also connecting it to how the experiences in language are similar in this reading and class. In class, we talked about how myth is a complex of symbols through the larger world view. Words create a meaning to what we assign them to in each culture and this is also the case in myths. C.S. Lewis created so many different words and ideas for his myths that brought forth a new way of thinking. He created another new world by making those sets of words exemplified in Narnia or The Space Trilogy. He framed the world he created by the use of certain words and leaving out other words. Lewis and Hooks are similar in how they create meaning through they words they choose.
