Personal Choice--the movie God's Not Dead and God's Not Dead 2
I have a lot of issues with these movies. The plot depicts a lone Christian among hundreds of other hateful, terrible, non-believers. It is set in modern-day, American life, and if we're being honest, the types of struggles that this Christian faces really aren't that crazy... and yet it seems that the entire world is falling down upon the shoulders of this poor Christian and all of the non-believers are hateful and evil and trying to see him fail. I think that this movie, this myth, does a terrible job of reaching out to non-believers, and it does a terrible job of teaching Christians how to evangelize. Yes, this is "just" a story, just a movie, but as I have learned in this class, story's are rarely just stories. They depict truth, and shed light on reality. Is this the kind of story that we want representing Christianity in the modern world? It's not what I want. I want a movie or story that shows Christians loving their non-believing neighbors. I want a movie that shows non-believers as real people. Yes, some of them are hateful. But all non-believers are not evil, conniving, out-to-get-all-Christian type of people. Let's create stories that truly depict reality.
