Die Grayer, Live Brighter- Student's Choice

Just like Lewis and his writing of The Chronicles of Narnia, Tolkien created a trilogy that has influenced our literary worldview because of The Lord of the Rings.  Gandalf the Grey is a wizard who uses magic sparingly and has a counter character named Saruman.  Saruman is another wizard who is the character equivalent of the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia series.  Gandalf and Aslan both compare to each other because they are strong leaders who are wise and end up sacrificing their life for the survival of others.  Aslan is stabbed by the White Witch shortly after being tied up and shaved of his fur.  Gandalf died after fighting a Balrog and falling into a great chasm because he was going to cross Durin's Bridge.  Both of these characters were resurrected, coming back to life as brighter beings.  Gandalf the Grey became Gandalf the White and Aslan had a beautiful but fearful look to him.  After coming back from the dead, Gandalf destroyed Saruman and the bad that went with him while Aslan destroyed the White Witch and the bad that went with her.  I love the comparison between these two herioc characters because of their willingness to put themselves above others first.
