“When
it had shaken these and closed them again, it gave ransom another long stare,
and at last, half waddling and half crawling…Feeling that honor was now
satisfied, he also turned away back to the woods”.
This
scene reminds me so much of the Star Trek episode we watched. Communication between
a human and an unknown creature is always a tricky thing. It seems as if other
creatures automatically assume that we can understand them; while humans
automatically assume the other creatures know nothing us or our language. The same
thing happened in the Star Trek episode we watched. The dragon assumed that
Ransom understood what he was trying to do. This automatic assumption to me
makes communication harder.
I
think communication between the same languages is hard enough with people
making assumptions. Assumptions make communication the easiest it’s meant to
have. Lewis shows that multiple times in his writings. Characters think there gestures
and words are easily understood but that is not always the case. If assumptions
were thrown out then I think it would be a lot easier for creatures of
different places that have different languages to start communicating. Because once
you realize someone does not understand you, you try to find the patience to
make them understand. That is the key to communication…patience. What do you
think is the key to communication?
