"Things always work
according to their nature" (Lewis 100).
Here,
Aslan is explaining to Polly about the outcome of Jadis's decision to eat the
apple from the tree in the garden. This quote reminded me of the human nature
to worry or stress about the outcome of something. Though, I think this quote
evokes a powerful message. Too many times in our life we try to rush life or
control every single variable. It is so easy for us to look ahead instead of
enjoying living in the present. I know personally I struggle with this battle.
I want to make sure things work out for my benefit and I allow my selfishness
to overwhelm my soul. If we interrupt what God's doing, then ultimately the
outcome won't feel natural but forced. There is a time for everything:
For
everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time
to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is
planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time
to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time
to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a
time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; (Esv Bible, Ecclesiastes.
3.1-22).
The Lord knows what is
right for us, so we must trust in him, and he will make our paths straight.
